[a in love with m] wedding day: barat
Saturday morning, was a cold day in Long Island, but you wouldn't have known it with all the love that warmed the celebration morning of A and M's wedding.
I know very little about Sikh weddings, so I'll try to describe as much as I know about each part.
We arrived early to the temple to begin the ceremonies. A's mother gifted me a beautiful pink Indian suit to wear. At the temple, we covered our heads with saris and scarves to pay our respects. Then we met outside to begin the Barat!
The Barat is when the wedding procession where the groom's family and friends accompany him to arrive to meet the bride's family at the wedding venue. Customarily the groom, dressed in his wedding attire, is seated on a decorated white mare and is led by the Baraati, his family and friends who dance and play music, to his new family!
The beautiful white mare
"It's in my blood!"
Looking forward to meet his new family
The Barat Begins!
A's friends play music and dance.
The bride's family awaits.
As his family dances, Amandeep takes it all in!
Next up: The Milni!
